If you’re in charge of organizing a fun and exciting date outing, we are here to send you in the right direction! It doesn’t get much better than having a variety of activities on one street — which is why you can’t go wrong on Cedros Avenue. So whether you’re wondering what to do for a first date, planning the weekly date night with your spouse, or bringing the girls or guys together for some bonding, we’ve laid out some great ideas to help you out.
The best part is that Cedros has you covered all day — so don’t worry about having to commit to a date night if you would rather have some midday fun instead. A number of these options  can be combined in different ways in creating your perfect date!

When it comes down to it, most can agree that getting together around our favorite beverages is one of the easiest options for a date or time with friends. On Cedros, both Culture Brewing Co. and Carruth Cellars provide a cool and casual environment, which is just what you’ll want with a pint of beer or a glass of wine and great conversation. Not to mention, the tasting rooms are perfect options during the day or at night!

If meeting over a cup of coffee is more down your alley, Lofty Coffee is a hip and popular coffee spot with tasty beverages and food. For those of you planning to have your outing during the morning or afternoon, mingling over an iced tea or a cafe americano is a nice way to go.

Eats

Brunch and lunch planners will find some incredibly tasty breakfast and lunch options at Lockwood Table Cafe. From baked egg souffles to specialty sandwiches to choose from, the only thing you’ll need to worry about is the silence that may occur once the food comes out! Wild Note Cafe is another lunch option as well as the perfect spot to eat before a Belly Up show — you can even walk through back doors that will take you right into the venue.

Entertainment

One of the most well-known and popular sources of entertainment in Solana Beach is the Belly Up Tavern on our very own Cedros Ave. Keep an eye on their schedule of performers as you plan your date nights because a great show can be the main event for your perfect night.

Cedros also offers some incredible art and photography galleries for admirers and enthusiasts alike. Since these options aren’t open later at night, they are perfect entertainment for before a dinner reservation, a show at the Belly Up, or before catching the sunset on the beach.

Shopping

After grabbing a bite to eat or something to drink, walking around the shops of Cedros is another source of entertainment in itself. Even if you don’t plan on big spending, simply walking through the unique stores and boutiques can provide for some fun with a significant other or a group of friends.

It’s safe to say that you’ll find something to please everyone on Cedros! Now all you have to do is pick and choose your favorite Cedros activities to combine for the perfect date or outing with friends. If there are just too many options and varieties to choose from, keep some ideas for your next time out! Here are a few of our favorite date combos:

And we’re on to part three of our “A to Z Things to Do on Cedros Avenue.” This final segment will focus on letters S through Z. We’re not going to lie, some of these letters were tough! If you’ve ever played the alphabet game or Scattergories, you know what we’re talking about.

Summertime is officially here and we couldn’t be more excited! To live in this gorgeous community is such a privilege and there’s no time like summer to showcase exactly why. Long sunny days with warm beach sunsets (after 8pm) are so lovely here in San Diego. The extended daylight hours simply beg for us to take in more sights, more activities, and more quality time with friends and family. So take-in this final list of fun to-do’s on Cedros Ave.

S –  Stroll into Solo if you’re looking for a truly unique gift, an off-beat greeting card or stationery, funky-chic housewares, a great art or travel book, or simply to simply take in the artistic splendor of what’s on display in this extraordinary warehouse shopping space.

T – Transcendent style can be easily found and marvelled in Tucci Boutique. Owner and fashion cognoscente, Jessica Agatucci, brings a clean and timeless sense of vogue to the clothing and accessory collection housed within her special boutiques.

U – Unique finds of the rustic-chic kind can be found in a sweet little shop located at the south end of Cedros called, Brick Lane. Think luxurious, yet non-fussy Anthropologie-esque fabrics juxtaposed with a collection of handmade local jewelry, antique wooden spools, and housewares that boast a homespun European vibe.

V – Visions of Gold Fine Jewelry is a must for anyone who appreciates elegance and glimmer. The collection of jewelry is curated beautifully and presents an enticing display of sophistication. If you’re in need of someone to design that special…ehem…ring, the owner and designer, Scott, is your guy!

W – Weeds is another one of our favorite clothing stores on the street. They specialize in comfortable, casual clothing that helps each woman create her own style.  We love them because they carry natural fiber clothing made in the U.S. and Europe. If you are looking for clothing with great quality and even better style, look no further!

X – Xenial is the word that comes to mind when we think of our friends at Lofty Coffee Company. Not only is their selection of fine coffee, teas, food and pastries exquisite (yes we said exquisite when referring to coffee – it’s THAT good!) but their staff is a vibrant and happy bunch that show all of their customers the utmost when it comes to friendliness and hospitality. If you become a regular, trust us, they’ll start greeting you by name.

Y – Yummy breakfast and lunch anyone? Head on over to Lockwood Table Cafe! Tucked into the back corner one of our tiny strip of shops at the south end, you’ll find this sweet little neighborhood eatery offering a satiating menu of savory and sweet bites. It’s the perfect little spot to meet up with with friends.

Z – Zigzagging about Cedros is an easy thing to do. Yes, we were reaching a bit with that one – haha! But seriously, it is! Many of our visitors will randomly hop from one shop or cafe to the next, then loop back and forth again and again. It happens when you’re surrounded by such a unique collection of local storefronts and eateries that Cedros Ave. has to offer.

So come on over and visit us for some retail therapy, gift shopping, or just to stroll the street and be inspired!

Take the Train to Solana Beach

Solana Beach Train Station

As we’re all aware, taking advantage of public transit systems has a much lower impact on the environment but in Southern California, we rarely utilize it. For the record, we get it! We live in a busy world where time is precious, and the extra time we’d need to factor into our routine just to get to and from a public transportation station just may not be realistic in your world on the daily.

If you’re a regular public transit user, hats off to you! But for those of us who aren’t (and we’re not judging), take note that public transportation can be utilized occasionally for day trips with family and friends, as well — and the Solana Beach Transit Center is a great stop if you’re planning a visit to coastal North San Diego County. Just an FYI that the Solana Beach Transit Station services Amtrak California’s Pacific Surfliner passenger train, and North County Transit District’s Coaster commuter rail.

Here are 3 reasons to consider taking the train to Solana Beach:

Avoid Traffic

Special events are always happening at the Del Mar Racetrack and taking the train is a smart way to avoid the dreaded traffic of the I-5 Freeway. This is especially true during the summer when kids are out of school and out-of-town tourism is at its peak.

For Summer Events at the Fairgrounds

Planning to visit the San Diego County Fair or attend the horse races this year? These are both stellar reasons to take the train to the Solana Beach station. The fairgrounds are really close by, and during the fair and race season, there are buses and shuttles ready to take you to and from your destination. If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll get to ride one of the double-decker buses! Scheduling an Uber or a Lyft is another option if you plan to head into downtown Del Mar for more sight-seeing. Also, if you’re planning to drink, utilizing public transportation is the way to go.

You Can Bring Your Bike!

Did you know that Amtrak now allows bikes? Yep! If you’re looking to spend the day in North County, soaking up the sun on our tranquil coastline, why not bring your own bike? Ride along Cedros Ave., have lunch at a local cafe, do a little boutique shopping, then cruise on over to Fletcher Cove Park, which also overlooks the beautiful Pillbox beach. Both Amtrak and the Coaster allow bikes. Just make sure you follow their policies.

2 Little Secrets About Our Local Coffee Shops on Cedros

Cup of coffee, latte on wood bar

This one is for persnickety coffee lovers who live in the land of FOMO. There are some little-known secrets about the coffee shops here on Cedros that we’re going to share with you. Solana Beach may be a small community, but the vibe allures visitors and residents with a truly unique charisma and our coffee shops are, indeed, a part of the local charm. We touched base on our cafes a few weeks ago, but now we want to dive a little deeper. Two of our coffee shops offer some tasty secret options that make them stand out and we’re sharing them with you.

UPDATE TO THIS BLOG: Orange Blossom has unfortunately closed since we posted this, but Lofty Coffee Co. is still open and another wonderful spot to visit for coffee is Lockwood Table located at 346-B South Cedros Avenue – they have coffee with alternative milk’s AND some delicious signature bubbly beverages to go with your meal. For more info on them check out this blog.

Lofty Coffee Co.: Housemade Nut Milk or Small-Farm Produced Cow’s Milk

Lofty Coffee Co. is our newest coffee shop and local hot spot draw — and for good reason. They offer one of the most artfully crafted cups of coffee in town. Whether you drink it black or whipped up as a latte or mocha, the flavor profile of their coffee is truly something special. Even the boldest of blends is balanced and never tastes burnt, which is a common complaint among coffee aficionados. Their lattes are in a word, heavenly. The secret is in the pureness of their milk. For regular milk drinkers, you’re certain to get organic milk from the finest of resources. They only use organic small farm-produced milk from Northern California. Lofty also offers almond and hazelnut milk for their lattes and mochas — but there’s more — their nut milk’s are housemade! And while almond milk has become a staple among coffee drinkers who prefer a dairy-free latte or mocha, hazelnut milk is not a common (coffee house) menu offering. Both are beyond delicious and, perhaps, even a little decadent. The richness of these nut milk’s comes thru with every sip. While you’ll pay a little more than mainstream competitors, it’s worth it.

Orange Blossom: Flavor Roasted Beans

Ever had a blueberry or orange espresso? Wait, what?! Our own little Orange Blossom Cafe offers some tasty fair with their crepes and omelets, but a little-known secret about their coffee is that their flavored coffees aren’t flavored with syrup — the coffee beans themselves are specially roasted with an infusion of delectable flavor. Flavor options include vanilla, cinnamon, orange, hazelnut, highlander grog, blueberry, and chocolate. This opens up a whole new world to coffee drinkers. While many coffees present flavor notes in their profiles, these flavored beans make sure the notes are prominent and forward. So whether you drink your coffee black, as a latte, or a mocha, this makes your options so much more intriguing and interesting. It’s also a nice alternative for those who want to forgo the calories that come with syrups or other specialty coffee drinks. You can drink it black, but with a simple pop of flavor. The Blueberry Mocha is a local favorite and a must try.

These secrets were worth sharing and we hope you’ll spread the word and give them a try… if you haven’t already.

Celebrate the Love ALL Around You This Valentine’s Day

Heart hands at sunset

It’s hard to believe that we’re a month into 2016! Heading into February, we’re faced with all things pink, red and heart shaped. Yep, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. For some, this holiday isn’t their favorite based on the notion that it’s a day celebrated exclusively by couples. Sorry, not sorry…but that’s a bit of an old school notion, don’t you think? We are in the 21st century after all, and traditions are morphing and changing in ways that meld old with the new.

With that in mind, we’re just going to put it out there that we think Valentine’s Day could (and should) be celebrated by everyone because love is all around us. Whether it’s with friend’s, family, and even pets, Valentine’s Day can be celebrated as a special day when we honor the love we’re all so fortunate to have in our lives. We’ll even go so far as to say that perhaps a little self-love is in order if you’re in need of treating yourself to some much-needed pampering, relaxation or a perhaps a little retail therapy. You get the idea!

Here are some ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the love that surrounds you:

With Friends

Celebrating Valentine’s Day with friends can make for a cherished memory, and perhaps tradition, for years to come. Whether it be with one close friend, or with a group, the possibilities of ‘what to do’ is endless. If you’re attached and planning an evening with your significant other, you could organize a coffee or lunch date with friends. If you’re not attached, plan a fun night out (or in). Some ideas might be to take in a concert at a local venue with dinner and cocktails beforehand, or plan a shopping day with your favorite girls. If you have a bestie who’s really been there for you this past year, a unique gift from a local boutique might be a nice token to show how appreciative you are of her friendship. We’ll just throw out there that some of the boutiques on Cedros Ave. have some beautiful gifts to choose from for such a purpose. Stroll into Cedros Soles, or The Antique Warehouse and you’ll see what we’re talking about. Once again, though, if you’re attached, it’s still nice to give a loving gift to a friend who means a great deal to you. Especially if they’ve recently become single, this may be a tough time where a little token of love from a friend goes a long way.

With Family

Who loves you more than your family?! These are some of THE best people to celebrate Valentine’s day with. It falls on a Sunday this year, so why not plan a family breakfast at a nearby cafe such as Lockwood Table? If weather permits, you could take a nice walk to your favorite park for some much needed time together. Make sure to take photos! Time together with family is a cherished moment that should be captured. Group family selfies are highly encouraged here. Just sayin!

With Your Pets

The love of a pet is one of the purest we’ll ever experience. Even if you’re attached or have plans with friends on Valentine’s Day, give your pets a little extra love to show your gratitude for the happiness they bring to your life. If you live in North San Diego County, we recommend visiting our friends at Muttropolis to pick up something for your furry family member. Nothing says I love you to the furballs like an extra yummy treat or a new toy.

With YOU

Celebrating YOU is a loving act that we rarely take the time to do. We’re often so busy with work, school and other responsibilities we sometimes forget to stop and celebrate the life we’ve created for ourselves. Even if you’re not in the best place in your life, it’s important to give yourself a little hug now and then to stay in a positive frame of mind. Celebrate all that you are, the lessons you’ve learned, how far you’ve come, what you’ve accomplished and your overall journey. Send a Valentine’s message to yourself – whether it’s one of encouragement or a boost of self-confidence. Choose to do something that makes you truly happy. A walk on the beach. Treating yourself to that perfect purse or necklace you’ve been eyeing. Getting pampered for the day at your favorite salon. Or simply taking some time away from the day-to-day to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee and a good book.

What are your plans for Valentine’s Day? Will you do any shopping on Cedros Ave. for friends, family or loved ones? Where will you shop? Share your ideas and thoughts with us on our Facebook page!

Enjoy Your Food, Enjoy Your Life

We’ve all had those sad desk lunches in front of our computers, simultaneously trying to scarf down leftovers and respond to those pressing emails. When you’re away from work, take the time to sit down and enjoy a meal (or even better, a glass of wine!). The Lockwood Table Café is a tranquilly ambient and quaint little cafe serving up a savory selection of artisan-style meals and sweet treats. Many of their accompaniments such as dressings, and sauces are housemade – which locals LOVE! As a favorite among many Cedros Merchants, this cafe offers more than an amazing meal; their patio seating is perfect for soaking up that California Sun while you enjoy their highly recommended breakfast and lunch specials.
