Wine and Beer: Seasonal Picks for Fall
We are now in the throws of fall, with the changing leaves and (theoretically) cooler days. As the seasons shift, so do the beer and wine aisles at the store. To help keep yourself cozy and warm in the fall, we have sought out beer and wine flavor profiles that resonate with the fall season from our local expert vendors, Culture Brewing Company and Carruth Cellars Winery.
Culture Brewing Company – Featured Fall Beers
Culture Brewing Co. craft beers are good on any day, but we asked the staff for their recommendations for the fall season. Malty beers are an excellent choice for the fall, with deep notes of nuts, toffee, caramel, and fruit. Culture Brewing Co. recommends their Dunkelweizen, malty with just a touch of sweetness to it. If you’re looking for a malt beer with pine or fruit notes, try their Hoppy Red Ale, which has recently become one of their staff favorites.
Not a fan of malty beer? Not a problem! Another fall favorite is a creamy Stout, which are sometimes brewed with roasted malt, and darker in color. Head over to Culture and try their Milk Stout, or their coveted Peppermint Stout. The chill of fall hasn’t yet hit San Diego, so venture out to their back patio and enjoy the warm summer breeze and Solana Beach sun. Another fun thing to note is that Culture Brewing also brings in local food trucks that park out back. There’s a different vendor for each day of the week for added variety, which helps bring awareness to local food truck vendors in San Diego. We love this!
Culture Brewing Co. is located at 111 S Cedros Ave Suite 200, Solana Beach, CA 92075, and is open from 12:00pm – 9:00pm every day.
Fall Wine Suggestions from Carruth Cellars Winery
Carruth gets the majority of their grapes from Sonoma County, and processes all of their fruit here on Cedros Avenue. For the autumn season, experts at Carruth recommend Pinot Noir as the “iconic” fall wine, as it is typically served at Thanksgiving. More tannic (bitter/dry) Pinot Noir goes well with turkey (of course), casseroles, stews, and veggie dishes. We see why they like to serve this one to guests during the holidays and encourage you to give it a try as well. Why not pick up a bottle for yourself and for the festive family gathering?
Wine differs from beer when it comes to food pairing, so keep the menu in mind when choosing your wine. If you’re still unsure of how to pair wine, consider joining the Wine Club at Carruth. Their staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and they’re happy to help you navigate the wine scene and all that comes with it from tastings to culinary pairings.
Members get FREE tastings, so you can sharpen your palate. Keep an eye out for their new location opening up across the street from Culture Brewing Company!
Carruth Wine Cellars is located at 320 S Cedros Ave #400, Solana Beach, CA 92075, and is open daily from 12:00pm – 9:00pm.
